Juana Maria Booklet

The true story of the famed “Lone Woman of San Nicolas Island.”

Juana Maria, the “lone woman” who survived 18 years alone on San Nicolas Island in the Santa Barbara Channel, has fascinated everyone from historians to 4th grade students for decades, and was the inspiration for Scott O’Dell’s popular fictional book Island of the Blue Dolphins. After being rescued from the island, the lone woman was brought to Mission Santa Barbara, named Juana Maria, and upon her death was buried in the Mission cemetery. Perfect for students or anyone interested in history, this informative little booklet provides the facts behind the incredible story.
