Ministries at Saint Barbara Parish

St. Barbara Parish offers a wide range of ministries for parishioners to share their God-given gifts and grow closer to God.

When we give of our time, talent and treasure with a happy and loving heart, we imitate Christ and are blessed with a sense of fulfillment that comes from serving Him through serving others.

Altar Server Ministry

Altar Server Ministry

The Ministry of Altar Servers warmly welcomes Catholic adults, and children who have received their sacrament of First Communion, to provide assistance to priests at the Altar during Eucharistic celebrations. Serving at the Altar allows you to experience the Mass in a humble and meaningful way and can help deepen your faith. Participants must be fully active members of the Catholic faith and demonstrate respect and reverence for the Mass and Holy Eucharist in the exercise of this ministry.

Altar Servers must be able to commit to serving once a month or more depending on availability. Training is required and is scheduled by appointment.

Monthly altar server schedules are posted online through Ministry Scheduler Pro at https://secure.rotundasoftware.com/l/web-terminal/login/oldmission

If you are interested in becoming an Altar Server, please complete and return the Minister Information sheet to the parish office click here. If you would like more information, or are a current Altar Server who needs assistance accessing the Ministry Schedule Program, please contact Roy Spicer, Director of Sacred Music and Liturgy at rspicer@saintbarbaraparish.org or call (805)682-4151, ext. 103.

Ministers of the Word

Ministers of the Word

The Ministry of Lectors is the perfect volunteer opportunity for anyone with a talent for public speaking and an appreciation and love for the Scriptures. As a lector, God speaks through you to the gathered faithful, so the Liturgy of the Word is always treated with reverence and respect. Participants must be fully initiated members of the Catholic faith.

Training is required for this ministry and is scheduled by appointment. Monthly lector schedules are posted online through Ministry Scheduler Pro at https://secure.rotundasoftware.com/l/web-terminal/login/oldmission.

Sacristan Ministry

Sacristan Ministry

The Ministry of Sacristans prepares liturgical books, vestments, vessels and other items necessary for the celebration of Mass, and oversees the organization and maintenance of the Sacristy. This behind-the-scenes role involves handling all the details so that priests may fully focus on the liturgy and communication of God’s Word.

In conjunction with the Sacristan ministry, our Altar Linen and Ironing Angels assist with the washing and ironing of altar cloths, purificators, albs and other items used in the liturgies on a weekly basis.
